Do you remember the last time you were sick and had to go to the hospital? Maybe you even had to stay overnight. More than likely you spent more time with your nurse than you did the doctor overseeing your care. I was sixteen the last time I was in the hospital for an extended period of time. I was prescribed a four day, three night stay due to an infection caused by an ear piercing. Yup. It actually happens. And it happened to me. I was the oldest “child” staying on the pediatric floor that week, but the nurses didn’t care. They invited me to all the silly, childish activities. Everyday I would get a hand out under my door telling me what was going on that afternoon or evening. Sometimes it was crafts with Elmer’s glue and safety scissors, or just a movie. I never made it because I was sleeping most of the time. The antibiotics I was one were REALLY strong and took a lot out of me. Also because of the antibiotics, the nurses had to monitor how much I was drinking, so they turned this into a guessing game to keep me entertained. I know I was sixteen and probably too old for this, but I humored them. It made my stay there more fun to play along. One day, they even wheeled me up to the library to check out movies. Again, I was only there for a short time, but they made sure I wasn’t bored!
