Keep in mind May is National Bike Month! May 15-19 will be Bike to Work Week. When I was younger I went to an elementary school that was considered a rural school. Most students lived ten or more miles away. I wanted so bad to ride my bike to school during our Bike to School week. My parents said it would be too dangerous and I was so bummed. As an adult I see how dangerous it would have been for me to have ridden there. It was at least ten miles from our house, and if I remember right, the ONLY way to get there was to get on the highway at some point.
There are a lot of dangers associated with bike riding and it’s necessary to take some safety precautions. When I’m driving and I see a cyclist coming up, I get really nervous and go WAY out of the way to get around them. Personally, I prefer to ride on sidewalks or bike paths. Apparently, riding on sidewalks is a no no, but they make me feel safe!
